Clay Township is one of nine townships in Hamilton County, Indiana. The township's approximately 50 square miles are bounded by 96th Street on the south, 146th Street on the north, the White River on the east, and the Boone County line on the west.   The population of Clay Township, which includes the City of Carmel, is estimated at 80,000.

The John W. Hensel Government Center, completed in 1997 (located at 10701 N. College, Indianapolis, 46280), houses the offices of the Township Trustee, Township Assessor, Clay Township Regional Waste District, and Fire Station No. 45.

The Community Life and Learning Center at 515 East Main Street started as an investment in higher education, workforce development and urban reuse. The need for a dedicated and centrally located learning center was first noted by a county-wide task force. The building is now leased to the Legacy Fund Community Foundation, IUPUI and Ivy Tech, offering area residents opportunities for personal growth and social interaction.

Other commitments to investment within the Township include the Weather Emergency Warning System which was funded by Clay Township in 1998 and its fire stations. Clay Township has six fire stations, the newest being Station #46 located near 136th and Spring Mill Road. The township's investment in fire and emergency services has substantially lowered the cost of homeowners and commercial insurance.
